The name is derived from the french word “jaspre” and the latin word “iaspi”, both meaning “spotted/speckled stone”. The speckles are caused by the mix of minerals, ash, and/or sediments contained within the stone. Because of this trait, no two stones will look the same. It is found across the globe, but mainly in India and Australia.
